DV GHANA STUDIES -THEATER FOR DEVELOPMENT PIONEERS IN THE CENTRAL REGION- THE OBRUMANKOMA TRADITIONALS OF MANKESSIM
The Obrumankoma, Odapagyan and Oson Traditionals was a community based performing arts institution that offered opportunities to the communities in Ghana to experience culture and arts expressed in the areas of music making, theater for development, training and performances to promote diversity, respect, unity, discipline and quality of life. Founded by Mr. Harold aka Coach with elderly support from Opanyin Obrahun, Opanyin Ohwerefa and Opanyin Kojo Gurah, the organization wooed audiences of all ages, backgrounds and nations.
Some of the star founding members were Joe Abban, Kow Annan aka Kwaanan, Kwesi Yeenu, Ato Okoto Taylor, Ato Hanson, Ebow Poku, Nana Egyir, Paa Kwesi, Fiifi Quaison, Kobby Frimpong aka Kobby Asoaso.
Abban and Kwaanan later left to form their own groups. At the same time, Ebow Woode Snr, Ebow Woode Footballer, Agya Andoh, Andoh Jnr, Joe Acheampong, Brother Quainoo, Kobina Kwan, Cynthia, Hannah, Queenmother Vivian, Auntie Adwoa,Abenaa Woode, Abena and other ladies joined the group to strengthen the group.
The group involvement in theater for development led to tours to almost all Ghana except the North and Volta region.
They were the Training Cultural Group for the Peace Corps in Ghana when the Training School was stationed at Saltpond, Central Region.
They had the opportunity to perform at the Accra Sports Stadium when the Red Socks from UK had a charity event there.
They were one of the featured groups during the maiden edition of the Ghana's National Theater's Kiddafest.
They had the opportunity to collaborate with Cape Coast International Arts organization, The AGORO PROJECT during the maiden launch of their program with Denmark and the Dannish Embassy at Cape Coast.
They also participated in the PANAFEST programs including a performance at the Assin Manso Mausoleum.
The group also had the opportunity of being the featured group during the maiden and other editions of the Ghana Day of Percussion events in Ghana.
This post is dedicated to all our members who have joined the ancestors i.e Opanyin Obrahun, Opanyin Ohwerefa, Opanyin Kojo Gurah, Auntie Adwoa, Master Abban, Nana Vivian, Abena Woode and Ebow Osabondey Woode.
Our last dedication is to Okyeremapanyin Kwaanan who passed away Last Week at Mankessim.
